Founded in 2009, Brodersen Associates provides award-winning landscape design and horticultural services customized to meet a diverse range of projects. Our client-based, hands-on approach to place-making is well-known, as is our dedication to low-impact environmental design.
Brian D. Brodersen
M.S., M.L.A., ASLA
Brian D. Brodersen has been practicing landscape architecture in Santa
Barbara and Ventura counties since 1999. He founded Brodersen Associates in
2009, the result of a desire to provide the highest level of design service
to the area. Brodersen brings a unique approach to the design process,
combining a strong artistic (both his parents are artists) and design
sense (M.L.A., North Carolina State University and University of Virginia),
with an approach that includes client education (Instructor, Haywood Community College),
scientific basis for decision making (M.S. Plant Science, University of California,
Riverside), and practicality (Business Manager, Grower). He is respected for
project outcomes that are fulfilling for clients and communities, are
sustainable and environmentally responsible, as well as being innovative and
timeless.
Brodersen is engaged with his local community, promoting architecture, high
design, effective policy, and education. He has been a Director on the Santa
Barbara Architectural Foundation Board since 2002. Brodersen is a Member of the Design Review Committee as well as the current Chair of the Tree Advisory Committee for the City of Ventura.

Carolyn B. Brodersen has more than 13 years of professional writing experience. Her articles have been published in newspapers, newsletters, journals, and online. She has written numerous user manuals and is an award-winning blogger. Her food blog, WhatEye8.com , is sponsored by FuddBuzz.com and she is working on a cookbook.
For Brodersen Associates, Carolyn prepares statement of qualification documentation, as well as mananging the back office.

In 2011, Brian Brodersen's work received the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) Gold Nugget Award of Merit. The award is in the category of Infill, Re-development or Rehab Site Plan (Five Acres or Less) for Ralston Courtyard Apartments in Ventura, California.

Public–Institutional Award
In 2010, Brian Brodersen was awarded the Goleta Valley Beautiful Award in the Public-Institutional category for his design of the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) San Clement Student Housing and the El Colegio Road landscaping.

Ventura County Community Foundation Article
In Nov. 2011, Brian Brodersen's article, entitled "Biophilic Urbanism: Nature at the Core of Urban Design & Planning" was published in the Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF) monthly newsletter. The article explores how nature can be included in meaningful ways for those who live in cities and for those who visit or work there, as well as how landscape architects and other designers can create designs that provide effective and sensible solutions to these challenges.
